Since 2006, generous donor support has helped the Roaring Gap Foundation improve the lives of residents in Alleghany County, North Carolina, through education grants, scholarships for college and graduate students, mentoring awards and other community support.
PROVIDING SCHOLARSHIPS AND EDUCATIONAL GRANTS FOR STUDENTS WHO ARE GOING PLACES
The Roaring Gap Foundation works to provide financial support for 4-year, community college and continuing ed students who are working for achieve their academic goals.
WORKING TO PROVIDE FOOD, HEAT, MEDICAL CARE AND CLOTHING
The Roaring Gap Foundation partners with Alleghany Cares, Inc. and other local organizations to provide heat, food, shoes, medicine, fans, healthy programs and more to those who need it the most in Alleghany County. We stretch our donation dollars and to try to do the most good.
PROVIDING MENTORS TO HELP OUTSTANDING STUDENTS FIND DIRECTION
Each year, Roaring Gap Foundation board members sit down to talk with — and listen to — outstanding students to help with goal setting, planning and visualizing success in their academic and personal lives. We’re all about dreaming big and then finding the small steps to get motivated students where they want to go.
SEARCHING FOR THE FINEST PRINCIPALS AND TEACHERS IN ALLEGHANY COUNTY
Each year the Roaring Gap Foundation presents Teacher and Principal of the Year awards to recognize outstanding teachers and principals who excel in mentoring students. We’re looking for leaders who make a difference in the lives of local students and motivate them maximize their potential.

, A note from the Roaring Gap Foundation Board:
In 2025-26, we provided over $400,000 of support to Alleghany County. This includes $187,000 in scholarships for Alleghany students and over $230,00 in community grants. We support education-related endeavors, food insecurity, child-care, emergency services, and much more.
It’s amazing to see the impact our dollars make in the Alleghany County community. The Roaring Gap Foundation is working to make a difference in the lives of our neighbors in Alleghany County.
